I'm still waiting to use it off-road. I bought this to use at the pool and with ATV's. At the pool it works fine in the water and out. The software sent with it takes some getting used to, and the video is not recorded in MPEG and must be converted with the supplied software. A hassle, but it works. It is tough and waterproof, and that is what I needed.
Since I got it just before vacation, I figured out how to work it on the plane. The only downfall I found is downloading video on the computer. This thing is awesome. I really put it to the test. Overall great buy for the money. (very simple). Went beyond my expectations.
Also, you have to use their software to download videos or they won't play unless you change the file extension. Just got back from vacation and it worked great. If your computer doesn't fit the sd card then you have to plug in the camera to the computer and wall. No problem under water in the ocean, in the air parasailing, on dune buggies and at the beach. I bought it because it is so rugged and waterproof. I am still working with this to get it to play on my dvd player. Oh yea, received it quickly too
It will go for about one hour before it dies. The only thing I would like to see improved in the future is resolution for still photography (VGA at 640 x 480) and maybe the zoom, but not that it is really needed because 10x is really good).
Once there, we weren't able to find it at any brick&mortar shop (BestBuy, now defunct CircuitCity, etc). I found the black version of this product by chance at a Duty Free Shop in Sao Paulo, listed at 750 USD, before a trip to the US.
So far, very satisfying. in the greater Miami area but many of Amazon's shops did carry it.My 11-year old daughter wanted a digital camera but I had been procrastinating.
This one seemed sturdy enough, being waterproof (has been in a pool more often than I initially imagined) and impact resistant (well, I don't know of anything, but it would be safe to assume that it did happen). Ah, one point of attention is battery life.
Replacemente batteries go for 35USD and are a good thing to have around.
I haven't had it in the water yet, but it did fall out of my truck to the pavement once, and it survived that. I've used the camcorder for a couple of weeks now, and I like it. Some reviews I'd read spoke of poor video quality, and it's not great, but it's good. The fact that they recommend sending the unit in every 18 months to repack the waterproofing bothers me since I found that out AFTER purchase. So far, I'm happy with the camcorder.
Video is great and the still camera function works well. This is one of the better camcorder purchases I have made. It's small enough and light enough to fit in a shirt pocket. The only drawback I see is the the battery runs out fast even in the off mode. All in all. It's a great cam/camcorder.
